Varla Eagle One V2 Review: The Ultimate High-Performance Electric Scooter For 2024!

The Varla Eagle One V2 is making waves in the electric scooter market, and after putting it through its paces, I can confidently say it’s a game-changer. In this review, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about this powerful scooter, from its design to its performance, and whether it’s the right fit for you.

The Eagle One V2 has snagged the top spot in my personal collection, even surpassing the Apollo Phantom V3 and Nanrobot N6. Let’s explore what makes this scooter stand out, from its features and specs to how it performs on the road.

Features and Specs Overview

The Varla Eagle One V2 currently retails for $1,569, down from $1,999. It comes in two colors: red and blue—I’ve got the blue one here to show you today. Varla includes a few extra grip tapes if you want to customize the look, but I’m leaving mine as it is because I like the eagle design on it.

For an additional $70, you can upgrade to a 13.8-inch wide Maple deck with extra grip tape and a second charger, which cuts your charging time in half. I would highly recommend taking advantage of that deal. Varla offers free shipping, a 2-year warranty, and a 15-day return policy. If paying upfront is a challenge, there’s a payment plan through Klarna that allows you to pay as little as $67 a month.

Here’s a quick look at the specs:

  • Motors: Dual 1,000W, peak power of 3,200W
  • Controllers: Dual 25A sinewave
  • Battery: 52V, 20.8Ah, up to 42 miles per charge
  • Deck Size: Standard is 9.1 inches wide, shorter than the Apollo Phantom or Nanrobot N6
  • Tires: 10 x 3.5-inch tubeless
  • Top Speed: 40 mph
  • Hill Climb: Up to 30°
  • Weight Capacity: 330 lbs

The Varla Eagle One V2 Cockpit

The Varla Eagle One V2 is straightforward in the cockpit area. On the left, you’ve got the hydraulic brake handle and a button panel with power, plus/minus buttons, and a headlight switch. On the right, you find another hydraulic brake and the throttle. My favorite feature is the thumb throttle, which pushes forward and back instead of the typical up-and-down motion. I find this design much more comfortable and intuitive. Its my favorite type of thumb throttle configuration to date.

The LCD screen is central and displays key information like speed, battery level, and speed mode. To turn on the scooter, you need to long-press the power button and use the NFC tag at the bottom of the screen. The display shows the battery percentage and distance traveled, among other details.

Night Riding and Brakes

For those who ride at night, the Varla Eagle One V2 excels with its large, bright LED headlight. It provides excellent visibility on dark streets, unlike the Nanrobot N6, which has a really small decorative headlight on the front. To ride the N6 at night you would have to buy an extra super bright light for your handlebars but with the Eagle One V2 you don’t. The Apollo Phantom V3’s light is good but doesn’t match the Eagle One V2’s brightness.

The hydraulic brakes on the Eagle One V2 are impressive. They’re completely silent and effective, providing excellent stopping power even at high speeds. During my testing on the road when slamming on the brakes from 25mph the tires would lock up and I would come to a stop in about 25-30 feet. In contrast, the Nanrobot N6’s brakes tend to squeak every time you stop, which can be annoying and embarrassing.

Performance and Speed Tests

I conducted several speed tests to see how the Varla Eagle One V2 performs. The scooter hit its top speed of 40 mph with ease. At high speeds, the steering is tight yet nimble, making it easy to maneuver. Varla purposely tightened the steering so it would act like a steering damper at high speeds preventing the speed wobbles. Its a genius idea and works well. The suspension is adjustable and pretty stiff out of the box, and while it’s not as cushy as the Nanrobot N6’s, it’s quite effective and quiet.

In my hill test, the Eagle One V2 climbed multiple 25-30° slopes with no issues, even with added grass to make it more challenging. I even rode the Eagle One V2 in the grass, up the side of an overpass. The scooter handled the incline effortlessly, demonstrating its powerful motor and good traction.

The dual motors provide incredible acceleration. The two high quality sine wave controllers help control that power to make it strong but smooth. The throttle is one of my favorites. It goes forward and back instead of up and down. When pressing the throttle during acceleration, you can control it for the most part. The scooter still wants to go but you can feather it if you like to stay at a constant speed.

Battery and Range

I was extremely impressed with the battery on the Varla Eagle One V2 electric scooter. I felt like it drained slower than any of the electric scooters I have tested. It was much better than the Nanrobot N6 and even better than one of my favorites, the Apollo Phantom V3. During my ride, which covered about 14 miles in speed mode 5 which is the fastest, I still had 69% battery left. Based on this, you could easily get around 35-40 miles on a single charge if you manage the battery well.

The Varla Eagle One V2’s range is impressive compared to other scooters like the Nanrobot N6 and Apollo Phantom V3, which typically fall short. After 14 miles on the other two scooters I would expect to be in the mid 50’s for percentage of battery left.

Final Thoughts: Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Powerful dual motors with impressive top speed and acceleration
  • Long battery life with substantial range
  • Durable build and effective suspension
  • Bright and effective headlight and deck lights
  • Bright brake light
  • Nice wide handlebars for stability
  • Large tubeless tires
  • Quiet hydraulic brakes

Cons:

  • It’s pretty heavy, which can affect portability
  • Shorter deck might be less comfortable for some riders
  • No turning signals (there will be on the new version)

The Varla Eagle One V2 is an exceptional scooter, especially if you’re looking for power and performance all in one package. The Eagle One V2 has taken the #1 spot in my personal collection over my Apollo Phantom V3 and my Nanrobot N6 electric scooters.  The Eagle One stands out with its impressive look, ride comfort, acceleration, range and handling. And its not a bad price for what you get.

At the time of writing this review the V3.0 model had just been released. There are a few upgrades on the V3 including turning signals, slightly bigger battery, dual 1200 watt motors, 4 or 5 miles more miles of range and a new LCD screen. The pre-order price is $1,999.00 from $2599.00. Itsa up to you whether you think those upgrades I listed is worth another $500 or not.

If you’re considering a high-performance electric scooter, the Varla Eagle One V2 is definitely worth checking out.
