ASAP Varna E-Bike: CAN IT HIT 30 MPH? | Fat Tire Electric Bike Review & Road Test

ASAP Varna Fat Tire Electric Bike

This isn’t your average electric bike. The ASAP Varna 26in Fat Tire is a beast of a machine, and let me tell you, it’s the fastest e-bike I’ve ever tested. If you’re searching for an electric bike that combines power, speed, and robust design, look no further than the ASAP Varna 26in Fat Tire electric bike. In this review, we’ll dive into its features, performance, and why it’s becoming a favorite among electric bike enthusiasts.

Design and Build Quality

The ASAP Varna is unmistakable with its bold design featuring 26in x 4in wide fat tires and a striking cyan color. This color isn’t just for looks; it ensures high visibility, making you stand out on the road. The Varna is made from strong and lightweight 6061 aluminum. While aluminum is lightweight, the build is sturdy and substantial, akin to a motorcycle rather than a conventional bicycle, providing stability even at high speeds. I also like the sturdy cargo rack on the back and its step-thru feature allowing riders with leg and hip problems to still be able to ride the Varna.

ASAP Varna E-Bike Bafang Motor

Performance

At the heart of the ASAP Varna is a robust 750W Bafang rear motor, renowned for its power delivery and quality. The Bafang motor propels the bike to impressive speeds, with claims of reaching up to 31 mph. During our tests, we found the speedometer slightly off, indicating lower speeds of 3-4mph below what we were actually going.

Now, about that top speed test. Let’s just say the first attempt didn’t go according to plan. My Insta360 X3 camera fell off of my mount while testing and filming. Unfortunately, my lenses were all scratched up on the 360 camera, so I had to purchase something else. I ended up getting a DJI action 4 cam. With a full battery and a clear path ahead, I put the ASAP Varna to the test. And guess what? We hit 29 mph according to the GPS, which is darn good for an e-bike!

Battery and Charging

Equipped with a 48V 17Ah removable battery, the ASAP Varna offers decent range and convenience. ASAP claims it will get between 19-37 miles per charge. This all depends on the riders weight, riding surface, wind, speed mode and other factors. Charging the battery from empty takes approximately 5 hours from empty, ensuring you spend less time charging and more time riding. On a single charge, my testing shows users can expect a range of around 25-30 miles.

ASAP Varna E-Bike Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Hydraulic Disc Brakes

One of the things I absolutely loved about the ASAP Varna are the hydraulic brakes. This is a huge upgrade over the standard mechanical disc brakes found on most e-bikes these days. Unlike some of the squeaky brakes I’ve encountered, these are whisper quiet and provide excellent stopping power. No more earsplitting squeals, just smooth, controlled stopping, even at higher speeds.

Comfort and Control

The ASAP Varna isn’t just about power and speed; it’s surprisingly comfortable too. The front hydraulic suspension is adjustable, allowing you to customize the ride for different terrains. The 4″ wide fat tires provide some extra cushion when going over bumps and the stable Aluminum frame handles well on everything from city streets to off-road trails.

The seat is also very comfortable. Typically e-bikes these days come with really hard or really hard and skinny seats. These are very uncomfortable to ride on for long periods of time. The ASAP Varna has a medium sized seat with lots of cushion so your rear end won’t hurt after just a few miles. The Varna has the ability to adjust the seat height up and down. There is plenty of room even for the shortest and tallest person.

The cockpit is user-friendly with a bright LCD screen displaying essential information like speed, distance, and battery level. The controls are intuitive, including a twist grip throttle for effortless acceleration and a horn for enhanced safety.

Riding Experience

Taking the ASAP Varna for a spin reveals its versatility and comfort. The Varna is a substantial e-bike built like a tank. Its step-thru feature allows riders with injuries or disabilities to ride. Unlike other e-bikes that you have to raise your leg high to get over the frame, the step-thru feature only requires the rider raise their leg 1.5-2 feet.

Once your seated on the bike you will have to start pedaling to 1-2mph before the 750W Bafang motor will engage. Then you have the choice of using the twist throttle on the grip or continue pedaling with help from the motor. The ASAP Varna has 5 speed modes and each of them has a limit to the top speed. If you want to pedal I would suggest keeping the pedal assist at level 3. This will keep you from going too fast which will prevent you from receiving any resistance to your pedaling.

The front hydraulic suspension can be adjusted for preload and locked out if needed, offering a smooth ride whether you’re on pavement or tackling rougher terrains. The bike handles well in various conditions, I tested it on the road, on the grass and on some deep dirt on a construction site and the ASAP Varna performed very well. This is thanks to the 4″ wide fat tires which provide added cushion and grip along with the adjustable front suspension.

The cockpit features a user-friendly interface with a bright LCD screen displaying essential ride information such as speed, distance, and battery level. Controls are intuitive, including a twist grip throttle for effortless acceleration and a horn for safety in traffic. I really like the riding experience on the ASAP Varna and will keep it in my collection of favorites to ride when I want to go 30mph on an e-bike!

Who Should Ride the ASAP Varna?

This e-bike is perfect for beginners and experienced riders who crave a powerful and thrilling ride experience. It is a heavy e-bike so it might not be the best choice for kids or teenagers. It’s also a great option for commuters who prioritize a comfortable and fast mode of transportation. The ASAP Varna has enough range to get you to and from your job and can do it at 30mph which saves time on your commute. Just remember, safety first! Always wear a helmet and follow all traffic laws. For speeds of 30mph I would suggest a full face helmet to protect your face in case you fall at high speeds.
